If you had to choose a place to embody your ideals, your spirit, what place would that be?

I think about this question often, this question that comes down to where you fit in the world. A part of me longs to choose the Greenwood, and Greenhaven. But I know there are others of my family better suited to such a great honor. Where, then? So far, I have found Setarco to be the place I find most akin to my spirit. But there are so many places yet to experience.

It is unusual to admit, and possible even more embarrassing to write down, but I must say I missed Arx. Where dry land previously left me feeling trapped or uneasy recent revelations and my part at Sungreet have fostered a certain affection for the capital, friends, and yes - even some of my family who no doubt know who they are. While such sentiment isn't exactly foreign, it is strange to feel such a pull to land and to harbor concern on how many days I will have before the Gambit returns out to hunt the seas.

I will trust resupplying her hold to the crew and see about rekindling things with old relations. I'm sure more than one of them owes me a drink or three, and Pirate could do with a fresh hunting ground.

Relationship Note on Bahiya

Should anyone be of an inclination to suggest as much to you, please do send them my way. Not, of course, that I think you need such from me. I just want to have the pleasure of discussing the matter with someone of that sort.

My cousin and a few of his friends went to my home island of Nilanza without me! Can you imagine the nerve? To leave me here half frozen while they gallivant along the beaches of my youth... at first I was quite angry but now I just feel forgotten. They all came back bragging in the whites about hurting a poor octopus. I hate it here.

I don't know why I should stay in Arx, there is war on the wind and my words are apt to get me hunted down like my parents.

No, Scholar, I plan to keep my opinions to myself.

Treachery masquerading as tradition shall not be countenanced. The Faith shall not be silent on the subject of those who choose to follow the words of a condemned apostate and to ignore the call of the faithful.

Our arms will ever be open to the repentant. It is not too late to turn aside from folly.

But one day it will be. The Church must protect the flock from those whose inconstance would tear the structures of society asunder and we will not shirk this duty.

Relationship Note on Medeia

Lady Medeia chose the one word of 'hope.'

Twined with fingers, nimble and deft,
The lone artist weaves radiant hope.
Critics will mock, blind with vision bereft,
Her art the slander's gallows rope.

Arx has certainly changed since I last spent time here. It may as well be a different city. Newer, faster, I might indeed say fantastic.

Actually I would certainly say 'fantastic', in the truest sense of that word. Perhaps even too much so.

Relationship Note on Adrienne

I have received the invitation to my cousin Princess Adrienne's wedding to Prince Sebastian Pravus.

What she has inscribed upon this invitation, I cannot share. However, I will note to any scholar who reads this, any royal, any noble, any citizen, any set of eyes at all: Princess Adrienne Valardin is among the treasures of my heart, and even among that number, one of the most precious. I love her as closely and as fiercely as I would a blood sister, for indeed, no matter where we sit on the chart of the Valardin family tree, in my mind and my heart, that is what she is to me.

Thank you, Adrienne. I love you.

I will admit now to the tragedy of being a noble with zero fashion-sense.

All I truly care about are these things:

1. Does it fit me well?
2. Will it double as effective armor?
3. Is it pretty?

I'm okay with this. Everyone should have a weakness. LOL

Ships and boats should be called by their set names, I know it's impossible. People don't pay attention unless they sail them.

Ugh.

We lost thousands at Sungreet - good people all - to defend the Compact and most important the Gods from assault by foreign heretics. Though the losses may not seem large compared to the size of the Templars as a whole, each death cuts at my heart - as they have at each battle I have been in. At the Lodge. At Stormwall.

They fought and died for a myriad of reasons, each person unique and irreplaceable. They were noble and commoner. They were Godsworn and disciple. Lycene and Valardin. Grayson and Thrax. Pravus and Redrain. People who felt called to the Templars by zeal, those called by tradition, those called to atone.

Each of those wounds to my heart re-opens when such sacrifices are called to be thrown away for a dishonourable peace with heretics and apostates. War is hard, it is costly and it hurts. That is why you must always be certain your cause is just, that it is worth it. The Gods are worth it, our love of them is worth it, our Compact guided by their ideals is worth it.

The Apostate Ivan worked with those who worship false Gods, he ordered an assault on a place of Sanctuary and a Mother of the Faith, and I have no doubt we will find evidence of a thousand more wrongs he has done as if the first two were not alone worthy of sanction. He was offered the chance to come to obedience multiple times. He was offered the chance even when it came to his removal to avoid blood shed, to hand power over to his son. Each time he refused. He made his choice, and while he may dishonour the Gods we will honour Skald's choice and the one he made to be our enemy.

And by the Gods, Ivan and the Dune Emperor (whoever he may claim to be) will be swept from our lands. The land our honoured fallen died for will not be home for the likes of them.

How strange that those who would support an Apostate would try to attack the Faith. It is a dangerous path, to champion an Apostate is to distance oneself from Church and Compact. It is to place barriers between yourself and the Gods, and as their voices grow dimmer to you, so you lose your way. It is a path that risks open conflict at a time when we are under assault by heretics from foreign lands, when the Compact must show these "Empires" as well as those abandoned tribes who would worship those same false Gods that we are strong. That we are not their playthings, not their victims, not carrion for them to feast upon. If understanding this, those nobles continue down that path I do not see a way back for them. And if after all that they truly would like a theological debate, I am content to offer one shortly before their trial. Afterwards, I fear they will not quite have the head for talking.

Got out of the city for a bit. Away from the snow. With my closest friends. Came home with an octopus. Yes. I caught that. I dove for that.

Then I came home to news of---well lets just say my house will be busy for a bit.

With the good news pouring in of the whirlpool's abrupt departure and the mix of news from the Oathlands, I am called to Artshall to do what I was entrusted to. I love my work for the most part, I enjoy it and it gives me a sense of satisfaction but now I have a sense of dread, hoping I will succeed in finding the needed balance.

Went on a little vacation from the snow. The sisters found their octopus, and I met a strong warrior that snatched their own octopus. Amusing that they only see me drinking, versus catching the stonefish.

I spent a fascinating evening with my nose in a book tonight. Not as fascinating as it was however to be granted the opportunity to speak properly with Lord Martino Malvici. He was able to help me with some research that I'm doing on my family; it's a huge responsibility being entrusted with keeping accurate records of our history, though I'm happy that that task has fallen to me. I'm never happier than when surrounded with books.

He indicated that he'll be happy to help me further should I have further questions, and for that I'm relieved.
