It's so good to be amongst family again, I knew that it was something I had been missing.. But the full impact of it didn't really strike me until Thea's birthday. Amongst them is where I am happiest, it makes the last few months even more sad. I wish they could have met him.

Another week of steady toil. Mathilde is busily studying every storybook she can to try to find gaps that her Tales of Oaty and Friends (title pending) may be able to fill, or lessons that may be taught better. She is nothing if not industrious. For my part, my work is much less beautiful. The harvest must be attended to, and stores built for the winter. Preparing the barns and stables for the coming winter can never start too soon after high summer. Through our determined efforts alongside the good work of the Lodge, I should feel prepared against any threats of late-coming blight or some other crop failure.
But I worry anyway. Nothing can be left to chance in this world. While the farmers work, others must see to the roads and fences, check the bridges for weaknesses that the coming cold may aggravate, make sure that the wood does not creep too close to the frontier settlements. And always, always, we pray. We do all we can and still we know that we are but grains of sand. Such daily devotions remind us to be humble. When we lose touch with humility, we stray ever-closer to folly.
Mathilde visited while I was writing. She says that she will make a story of my dire grumbling. I wonder if Oaty will speak with my voice on those pages. I hope he will not be offended at my moments of ineloquence.

Lady Braith Mazetti held a fine gathering, with a good deal of merriment. For that she has the gratitude of her Duchess, myself, and her House. It has been quite the undertaking! One which has consumed a good deal of her time, but I sincerely hope she is fulfilled by her achievement.
I likewise wish to extend warm regards and thanks to each and every soul that came to celebrate alongside House Mazetti. There were certainly a number of impressive feats that were performed and I am eager to see what the next festival may bring.

Camilla
I wish that I could claim more credit for the impressive young gentlewoman into whom my former pupil has grown. She is certainly now both accomplished and confident; I very much look forward to fruitful collaboration.

Piccola
Reading the whites of Lady Piccola have been interesting to say the least.
Her analysis and theories on how war impacts the people and domains even outside of battle are of merit. Indeed it may be worth her collecting said thoughts into a compilation. I for one would want a copy of such a book.

It is always a little frustrating to be working from outdated information. Entirely my own doing, my line of work has taken me away from Arx quite often, particularly in the past year or so. And, of course, there's only so much any one man can focus on at a time, which may be the actual issue. It's difficult to choose what to look into, when I'm not investigating a topic at the request of someone else.

I would like to make public apologies to Braith and all of the Mazetti. I had planned on attending their Festival of Lights and was greatly looking forward to it. Alas, I missed it, though I am told that it was a wonderful experience. Of that, I had no doubt it would be. Hopefully, I will be able to attend the next... or another gathering.

I never would have expected it, but I'm proud nevertheless. Now that I'm related to a godsworn I have someone to go to for every stupid question I have!

Margerie
The birthday cake Aunt Margerie made was lovely. I should have commissioned a painter to immortalize it, because I don't think anyone will believe me when I tell them about it now. It had pumpkin spice and honey pecans, with a chocolate frosting made to look like tree bark, and leaves. It was real, I swear it.
Someone also sent roses, but I'm not supposed to overthink those.

I must admit, I never truly expected to be a protege...and certainly not to a Lycene Prince. I am quite certain this arrangement will be interesting, and enlightening, if nothing else!

My cousins are both alright - when I first heard word of the attack on Solace, my heart leapt into my throat. Of course, I know both Bree and Brannen are Knights and well capable of taking care of themselves and their duties, and I would never expect them not to do so, but...all the same, I find I cannot help my worry.

Porter
On behalf of the Silver Swords, welcome to the Silver Order, Sir Porter.
As you begin your days as a godsworn knight, I encourage you to think on the recent losses that the Knights of Solace suffered in defense of the House of Solace. Learn their names. Send messages to their families. And become comfortable with sacrificing yourself if duty called upon you to do it.

The scent of apples on the breezes reminds me of the joys autumn brings. Good Harvest celebrates the months of hard work, the wondrous results by devotion, and the promise of all things made of apple (at least for me).
As winter nears, the season affords us more moments spent indoors in the good company of loved ones and friends. So let us prepare to enrich our minds and commune in the solace of ourselves -- lending us time to heal and look forward to spring and rebirth.

Porter
While I know Sir Porter only a little, in our brief acquaintance he has struck me as a man of great might, boldness, and merriment. I had the honor to witness his vows to the Faith and Knights of the Solace and it heartens me to see one such as this take up the sword for such a cause. All knights seem the better to have him among our number.

I attended Sir Porter Kennex's godsworn and knighting ceremony at the Grand Cathedral this week. It was a really moving affair. The moment when his brother, the Duke of Stormward, released him from his family oaths, I think you could almost feel the pang of loss mixed with great pride. Sitting near my own brother, it reminded me of his ceremony with the King's Own. Chatted with a few new people during the event as well. It's always nice to make the acquaintance of other knights of the realm.

I took my vows yesterday. A lot of the process was an incredible blur. I remember feeling incredibly nervous and also surprised by the amount of people that were there. And then TREMENDOUS CRUSHING ANXIETY as a I realized they were going to be watching me the entire time. But Father Aureth was great and Grandmaster Jeffeth was equally as great so I ended up not flailing nearly as much as I thought I was going to.
And Aethan was there. Which meant probably more than I could possibly put into words.
I hope he appreciated me not laughing until well after he sat down.
But I lied. I'm not sorry about the hug at all.

This has been an incredibly draining week. I feel as if I'm tired down to the very bones of my body.
But also good, in a way.

The long hours is absolutely nothing compared to what other are going through. I'm positive that we will work through this like we have everything else in the City.
