A memorandum on the necessity of wound management following disarticulation:
Physiological trauma to an extremity may necessitate amputation for the preservation or salvaging of function.
The most common developments in patients who have elected to follow through with the aforementioned procedures are hospital gangrene, septicemia, and pyemia. I have personally observed these conditions in care centers and surgical wards with poor ventilation and exceedingly unsanitary environments (floors, cots, instrumentation). In some cases, disease may compromise those originally unaffected, indicating an unknown mechanism of transmisson.
Given the probability of complications when evidence of tissue necrosis or abscess formation is discovered, it is therefore recommended that all clients requiring emergent intervention receive regular changings of dressings in sterile recovery chambers.
As an aside, I remind practitioners that the safest and most effective methods currently involve a sweeping incision about the circumference of limb, immediate ligature of artery and vein, transection of muscle, and sawing of bone.

Grandchildren,
Time is like sand which slips through your fingers, and soon you’ll have nothing more to grasp. But an empty hand isn’t useless, for it can be offered to the gods on our passing and a true Tidelord desires nothing more than to fall in battle only to wake up in Elysium to the roars of applause and welcoming cheers as other heroes lift a toast to us if we’re worthy. Do all things as you are being judged, there won't be surprises at the end.
I returned from reaving with some of my grandchildren, allies and friends against a group of pirates who were fo und wanting by the Sword and Wave. To one of the captains, I offered him the option of silver or steel. Silver to bend the knee and bring prosperity and life to his crew or steel to pay the debt and be judged. He chose steel.
While we were on opposite sides in the challenge of that battle, we both fought strongly and honored the other without poor attempts. As with my other reavers, we all were prepared to die in defense of our beliefs. To not shirk when death is but a cut away.
As the captain and I embraced with weapons, he died at the hands of lord Branimir as the giant warrior plunged his sword into the captain. He died in my arms as I dropped his body. And dipping my fingers into the pierced heart, I marked the warrior Branimir with the bloody waves to show that the gods judged him righteous in that moment. He fought like a maelstrom on the stormy seas.
I am proud to defend and fight along with my Compact allies and I look to you, grandchildren, to live and prosper in co-existence and to die to defend them should it be required.
And perhaps when you die, you’ll wake to my voice welcoming another hunter to Elysium.

I am no great artist, nor do I often even paint much, but one project I like to do is painting the map of Arvum on tables and sending them as gifts. The world is changing, though, and new lands are being discovered - if not explicitly mapped out - and it's my hope to update my own template for these things. Maybe notes about the rivers and seas...details that will be difficult given my skills, but an endeavor I am hopeful to complete.

In the midsts of taking Celeste's oaths yesterday, I had a visitor.
A rather large (nearly up to my knees) snapping turtle has decided to adopt me as her caretaker.
According to Dame Leola, she is named Sir Geddyorf and she is old and grumpy.
And wants to be called Sir.
But she is good at delivering messages. Not the fastest, but unique. She also has a fondness for fish soup.

I was called to the Knight Barracks on an urgent matter last night. Imagine my surprise when I saw Princess Celeste Pravus, freshly awakened and still in her night clothes.
She told Ailith and I that she was prepared to dedicate her heart and life to the Faith. I was surprised by this, but overjoyed. I know the troubles that can come of trying to decide between nobility and Faith and that release can come by giving oneself whole-heatedly to the Faith.
I administered the oaths and Celeste accepted them. I am proud to welcome Dame Celeste Pravus to the Faith and Templars.

Lady Thea introduced me to the gauntlet this week. Shut up scholar! Of course I didn't die. I can exercise. Stop it scholar! Don't laugh I did complete it.
OK, fine. I fell a few times and didn't get anywhere near over the wall. But I did get up the rope. I don't see what all the fuss is about. The rope was the easiest part.

Hmm, note to self --
Do try and find a suitable lady for Lord Alban. She will need to be patient, yet willful, and of course able to marry into our house. Preferably someone who is not already overly familiar with his abundant charms. Good Gods, does such a lady exist? It is about high time my dear cousin settles on down and starts helping prepare for the next generation of Farshaws.
On that note, I should really start looking into matches for Lady Emberly as well. Of course, it will need to be a fine man of upstanding character, sound mind, and with a load of patience -- who hopefully can help keep her from blowing up various halls in the Commons... Hmmm, I am starting to detect a trend among these needs.
Perhaps someone from the Northlands or even the Mourning Isles. I am sadly so very out of the social loop since my return. There must be an easier way of finding suitable arrangements.
Ivy needs playmates, legitimate ones... I am getting too old for this!

The contemporary practice of institutionalization should be reserved for those who lack the capacity to reason for themselves or have expressed a desire to bring harm upon others. In some instances, if there is a concern for the well-being of self, voluntary or involuntary admissions may be warranted -- especially if the patient has ruminated upon the termination of their own life or, whether it be by written or verbal admission, conveyed suicidal ideation to a peer.
I caution against the use of restraints or psychosurgery, as proposed by some of my colleagues, for there is no evidence to suggest that this form of treatment is any less barbaric than the nervous illness itself. Instead, every effort should be made to discover the root cause of disease -- be it dysfunction of thought, historical trauma, or interference from another body system. So too must immediate distinctions be established between those afflicted by true psychosis and melancholia, which may share some characteristics -- retardation or agitation of movement, despondence, unusual affect, poverty of speech, disorganization.
To do so, it is recommended that suspicious clinicians seek out and obtain collateral information from the patient's close family members and friends. Chronicity may be an indicator of a pervasive impairment and assist in the ruling out of recent or temporary conditions (e.g. grief following the loss of a loved one or change in condition of living).

I bought myself a horse at the Halfshav auction. Me. The one who is most definitely NOT a horse whisperer. I've just now started learning how to ride, so leave it to me to choose the most spirited filly I could find. And she looks to be wearing socks. This should be interesting. I am a woman of medicine and blades, not---large animals. My father is laughing at me, I know it.
