If it's an enterprising fly with a very strong sense of self-awareness to survive, it could.

The Duchess of Tor. I have known her since we were children and from the time I could make the decision as an adult I have chosen to serve her. She wasn't ever supposed to rule Tor but she has done so effectively and with great skill and dedication. She is an admirable ruler and a fine friend.

Today I received a beautiful gift - a sundial pendant, inscribed with the Canticle of Vellichor. Thank you, Scholar Sparte, for the very thoughtful gift. I will treasure it.

Relationship Note on Juliet

Such a strange gift, what found its way to me today with your words.

I am reminded of how you loved to provoke and challenge, how naturally those habits paired with your brilliance and warmth.

You are missed and fondly remembered today, though I make no promises about rising to this particular challenge.

Tomes have been sent to keep me occupied, others come to bring city gossip. Twice I have been out to carry out obligations of a host for things planned before I was encouraged to remain off my feet. Thank the gods above that it was things I could do while I could sit. Never have i longed for fresh air like I have these past few weeks. Things come to a head soon, I hope. They move less and less, less room for them. Them. A perhaps somewaht cruel joke maybe. But I am reminded of the Dominus's whites over a year ago, and perhaps in there, there is some understanding of the why.

The claw has been occasionally lazy on the bed near me as well. No reaching out to swipe at me. Though Astrid appeared with more than a few new scratches herself from the demon. She likes to lay against my belly while I am laying down or rocking in the atrium and for all her ramapging eagerness and energy, she falls silent and listen and babbles. As if somewhere in there, Genaile has managed to instill some modicum of restraint and calm and we see it more.

Dance pulls himself up too, on his chubby legs and and shows hints of walking. Making more noise now too. A picture of domestication perhaps, when all of us are in the atrium and the three of them looking at the water and the fish while I rock. Thus soon three becomes five. Please be soon. I cannot bear this tediousness.

I have many more tragic stories to tell. But I would hope to put a little bit of something more light hearted into the world. I heard this one from a drunk sailor, many years ago:

"What happened to the pirate ship that sank in the sea full of sharks?

It came back with a skeleton crew."

No one even punched him for telling that one, which is a miracle in itself.

I've put together a book with 25 riddles for beginners I've picked up from various places. I take no credit for the riddles inside, just for combining them in one place. The book is free to anyone who wishes a copy that contact me within the coming week.

The book of answers I will give out in exchange for original riddles brought to me for the next book.

All this rain has strengthened my convictions that the winter will bring further reason to remain indoors. If we are all to survive the experience without some ill-ventured argument that ends in a spectacular duel -- with no disrespect intended to Champion Bliss or the other respected duelists -- then the city direly needs a well-planned social calendar.

I suppose it doesn't hurt that I have already somehow conceived of seventeen events to pass off to other people, for surely I have enough to do as it is.

Give me an hour of idle time, I fill it with a fortnight of things.

Thoughts and feelings act like dye upon the soul, as surely as dye stains cloth. I choose my own soul’s hue. I choose where I commit the mill of my mind.

I will not be led astray.

I hurt. More than I've probably ever hurt in my entire life. The only fear I had was of being eaten by some giant monster before we were able to defeat it and free those poor souls... I had no idea what kind of damage it could do to me. It's taking all my strength just to write this. Despite what I'm feeling physically, I will not allow it to stop me from rushing in to do the right thing every single time. There are more demons to slay, real ones and the human kind. I proved that I'm not a fighter, but I'm certainly not going to back down.

At first I thought it quite distracting to be stared at by a turtle when I was working. But he is very adorable. And then I realized that he really wasn't staring at /me/ or the beading, but was looking very forlornly at the leftover sliced fruit that I'd forgotten about on the table while I was doing my embroidery. Or he was missing his mistress, but I'm certain he'll be returned home safe and snug very soon.

Disturbing dreams have plagued me so, and little worries tugging and pulling at my heart and mind, so it was good to have some company. I do love my lady's cat, but not while I am surrounded by threads and beads! Perhaps I should look into getting some kind of pet.

One day at a time, and still things move along. The water jousting hosted by House Thrax and Princess-Consort Alarissa was a lot of fun to watch, and I am glad I went. It definitely did not involve me shucking oysters though. This is good, because I don't think I could top the last time.

It is a heavy thing I have learnt today. Puzzling things that got answers also made more questions.

But I can't learn or know everything. I know enough to know what to do. Sometimes you just got to say enough with questions and start doing things.

Another birthday has come and gone. I have grown a little older, and in the past year, my responsibilities, too, have grown.

I do not keep track of the anniversary of my birth very well. Perhaps next year, it will come and I will remember it. I think sometimes about my mother. Who she is. Where she is. Does she remember?

Relationship Note on Caius

The Bearer of the Lucky Lip Ferret. It's said that the thicker the coat on it, the harsher the coming winter. There was once a duel over it, when some young lord felt his waxed mustache was far more magnificent and stylish - the lip ferret won. The flavor saver can unscramble an egg. The lip ferret doesn't get wet, water just likes to be around it. The bristle baton can win a Great Victory in a Game of Stones in only three moves. There's actually an origin story about the lip ferret; I'm sure there'll be a play about it some day.

All of the myths of it aside, the wearer of it showed me his bravery recently. I had never questioned the potential bravery of the man, particularly because when he was informed 'you, I, or we may die', he did not flinch or have apprehensions. When it came to what could have been potential last words, this Dragon of the Oathlands had the honor of others on his mind before his own health.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way. Wise words spoken by the man himself.
