I have been painted.

Prince Tyrus Thrax used me as his model. I felt rather foolish in the moment, holding a prop and staring at an imaginary horizon (in truth, a tree in the Eswynd garden). This is one of those things where I can only admit that the artistic mind is one foreign to me. Despite my inner apprehension, I feel that His Highness represented me very well. If I am to be remembered in any way, this painting is one that I deem suitable.

Relationship Note on Sina

As a knight of the road, I spend so little time in the Archives or staring at the pages of books, so when someone willingly and generously assists me in gathering the much needed knowledge to move forward with a journey, I am truly grateful. Archlector Sina has offered me insight and understanding that very well may be the key I needed. Even if it isn't, what I learned may open an entirely new world of adventure.

Now to find the book that the waves can read made of stone and salt!

The other day I had this brilliant thought, that I should attempt to write a brief synopsis of the known history of the world. I sat down at my writing desk and realized just how daunting a task that actually is, and how hopelessly wrong it would end up being when it was finished.

I spent the rest of the afternoon trying to teach River to balance a piece of cheese on her nose and only eat it on command. She ate a lot of cheese, but is no closer to learning the trick. Still, it was probably the more productive use of time.

I would record this in honor of Vellichor so that whatever small contribution I am making to the archives is not lost should I be unexpectedly lost. It is said that during the Reckoning, the god saved humanity by providing us with histories. He tasked us with protecting those histories. I will add my small part to this effort with this project.

My recent studies have revolved around history. Research is via both reading and interviews with others of knowledge. The compiling of perspectives and facts is time-consuming, but very interesting. Perhaps I will one day write my own ambitious index to human history.

Other than the studies, I have joined the Physicians in order to offer my skills to those in need, including the war efforts and the rescue operation headed east in response to the Eurusi cataclysm issue. As well, I am training pets here and there, and staying fit by advancing my spearplay.

I had an unexpected breakfast with Princess Sabella yesterday. Or at least we had coffee together at Bold Espressions. It was good to have some company in the morning, and I quite enjoyed it.

In other news, today's tea is a white tea with berries, apples and spice. Delicious.

Whoever said Oathlanders don't have jokes LIED! I received a box of nuts. Sir Lenard sent me his nutd. I mean, edible nuts. Tree nuts! Not HIS nuts! That's weird. And not..ANYWAY! There is a story behind this, one but now I have a question! Maybe you all can help me!

What does one send this man in return? I know he doesn't drink milk, so there's that. No milk and cows!

The Wagon Run was very fun! Admittedly, I feel as though I had an advantage. My day to day routine takes me everywhere from the docks through the Lowers, into the Uppers, and back around. I've learned a number of shortcuts here and there in that routine.

But really, it was just fun to be there! My respect for both Sydney and Svana, they really had me racing!

Also, this crown is FABULOUS. I need something new to wear with it...

I do not regret my youth and its beliefs.

I have wasted time, but not to live. Youth and inexperience wield force, but they are rarely lucid. Sometimes it has a triumphant liking for what is now, and the pugnacious broadside of paradox may please it. But wise generals know that true innovation does not come to those who have not lived. What if the stern greatness of present events will educate the generation which today forms our frontier?

Therefore, place hope, wise general, in youth.

I'm still in a state of total shock and awe that I came in third at the Wagon Delivery Run this year. I didn't expect that. What I did expect? Sydney to do better than me. I thought she would come in first place, but she still ranked higher than me, so I wasn't entirely wrong.

I only hope that I did the Grayhope clan proud. It was so fun being with my people in the Lowers, even if they didn't start out my people. Through marriage, many of them have become that way and I am so glad. In some cases, family truly is chosen.

It has been a very long time since I was at sea in the midst of a good storm. It has done much to remind me as to who and what I am.

My more recent paintings have been done in order to honor something. I've been struggling for weeks on a new piece, which I had hoped to dedicate to Mangata and her shrine. The colors don't feel right, the lines appear juvenile, and I've scrapped more drafts than I care to admit in writing.

Maybe, instead, I should draw (no pun intended) deeper and paint what haunts me. It seems to work for others, from what I have been reading, and perhaps that's where my inspiration should be drawn from. At the worst, I'll end up with more trashed canvases, I suppose.

What is this world, this dream that is being fought to hold onto for so many to be stuck not being allowed to be with who they really wish to be with?
Scholar, I ask you with a full heart. Why must the many be forced into a loveless life, just to produce a heir, when there are hundreds if not more, as war is coming of orphans seeking a forever family?
Why do I watch many nobles hiding into corners to share a smoke or a small word?
Why is it that the commoner is given a freedom to love as freely, but those that have been sworn by duty and rank to provide and protect us are not?
If this is the dream that we seek to protect...
I don't know if I have the will to follow.

I hate when the cases in the shop are empty. Not always enough to change that, but the last week or so it's really been on my nerves. I've been toying with ocean themes - boats, waves, something like that.

Honouring the late Mistress Joscelin was a thrill. The work of the crafters on display was enough to make me weak in the knees. Truly a momentous event, and I like Count Duarte's attitude - that the attendees are what makes the event exclusive.

The models showcasing the pieces were thrilling, skilled, and lovely to see. To know them, to be close to them, to see my friends be raised up by art simply astonishing and amazing. And of course, I fell in love with my own outfit and simply had to have it - with Count Duarte once more proving his generosity. He's truly an astonishing individual, and I can only hope I will get the chance to repay the good turns he so eagerly shows.

Amanita acquitted herself very well - the woman wears cupridium like it was silk, and I simply adored watching her on stage. She made me proud, as Softest.

I've spent a full day in the chill of the Lowers in Autumn, with warm and spiced drink at hand, watching people celebrate and drag wagons, run wagons around. Seen mud churned and paving stones been made well. It's an interesting contest Mistress Josephine dreamed up, where dockworkers and wagonmasters come together and share the labours of their field, so we might turn it into a competition. Complete with the delivery of goods and parcels all over the place. They've been well compensated, of course. And near as I can tell, there were very few mishaps with the deliveries. I suppose people knew not to send heirlooms along to be delivered today in particular.

We had a spirited and good showing, and the finale turned into a bit of a nail-biter. The top three for the Run were Svana Grayhope at third, and I'm sure the Grayhopes will be well thrilled with her positioning, then Sydney the Waterfall coming in second - but don't worry if you thought she won, she was in high enough spirits for everyone.

Lore Artiglio took the title of Queen of Wagons for this year, and I was thrilled to give away the first Crown. More thrilled to watch people eat good food and turn this day into a feast day. To share in stories and community.

I see now, why it was so important to her, and I can't wait to host the rest of these contests.

I may have taken second in the wagon race, but not for a lack of effort from Mahogany. I swear, I don't know what I did to deserve that horse tolerating me half so well as she does.

It might be the fact that I keep sneaking her beer.

It's probably that I keep sneaking her beer.

I have never been to Fortezza di Iriscal, but if the food in La Rosa d'Ebano is any indication, I should make a culinary visit there as soon as possible.
Good company and delicious food is all one needs to escape the concerns engulfing us lately.
Lord Tessere has outdone himself in bringing a sample of the Fortezza to the city.
