Relationship Note on Eirene
So Eirene has joined House Riven now. Malvici will feel different from now on as she always felt like a permanent presence in the family. However I am pleased she has found a suitable match for herself and now Riven and Malvici are joined by marriage.

Patience, that aggravating sister to perseverance, is an underappreciated virtue. When I feel personal inertia, I remember the many great works advancing within the Oathlands, each person's tenacity through difficulties and delays making for a stronger whole. A personal passion is safe passage. It's a selfish interest; often I'm the one doing the travelling.
House Laurent and Lady Mabelle's Domestique Bell is a haven. Lyonesse, Rivenshari - we see you and the wonderful things you have done for those traversing your domains. (I'll note that the Lyonesse Academy for the Advancement of Chivalric Endeavors and Knightly Pursuits for the Progression of Military Efforts Within Lyon's Redoubt and the Oathlands is a treasured instution and one I never miss visiting.)
And how could I write a journal without mentioning glorious Highhill? I was among the skeptics. I rejoice in my wrongness. Count Richard Wyvernheart is what we need.
Gild guard us all, and Limerance fortify our fidelity to our ambitions so well as you do our oaths.

War is but an attempt to establish new relations among states, and through the destruction or at least the dismemberment of all them to create new political bodies. These cannot, either internally or externally, maintain themselves and must suffer revolution and change until finally, through the best possible civic constitution and common agreement and legislation in external affairs, a state is created that can maintain itself automatically.
By mutual interest, people unite against violence and war. The spirit of trade cannot coexist with war, and sooner or later this spirit dominates every people. For among all those powers that belong to a nation, financial power may be the most reliable in forcing nations to pursue the noble cause of peace and wherever in the world war threatens to break out, they will try to head it off through mediation, just as if they were permanently allied for this purpose.

Hummouz - a Eurusi salad. Very good with bread. Keeps well.
Ingredients: One half-pound chickpea; one fourth-cup juice of lemon; three cloves of garlic, minced; two tablespoon olive oil, clear; half-tablespoon cumin; dash salt; two tablespoons clean water; dash ground chili atop
Seethe chickpeas until slightly soft. Spread in pan, roast in oven until slightly browned. Grind all in mortar and pestle until consistency is a uniform paste. (Best results with Setarcan molcajete.)
If available, add one fourth cup sesame seed paste for improved and authentic flavor. However, this commodity is far more dear for us than it is for the Eurusi.

So I can now add Uncle to the titles I have currently. I am truly happy for my brother Martino and his wife Kaia for the birth of Lady Arsenia. I can already hear her across Southport Square from Malvici Hall while in Magnotta Manor. If she keeps this level of volume up then I agree with the consensus that she will be a good General... or Drill Sergeant at the least.

Highsummer. Fall will be coming soon. I hope that the work we have done throughout the start of the year provides us with enough to get through the coming winter. Much has been done to improve our farms and bring more to the land, but I always feel like there could be more. Even as I try to focus on the mundane details of commerce, I am constantly looking to the border. So much lies beyond that we do not understand. It is all I can do to try to see to the safety of the people in Chevalle, but what happens abroad eventually comes to our doorstep. Are we prepared to address the needs of all? I can only do my part.

Summer seems to last forever, scholar! But I've been making the most of it! I went to the Bold Espressions where I met up with my brother and a Lord Dariel. He was telling me all about this acting this he does. And let me tell you! I must have been an actor my whole life! I'm still a bit upset he smashed my muffin, but he did buy me a new one.

I have spent the day indulging in those activities which help center me - and for once, they do not involve things I must tend to at the House of Solace.
I have baked cookies to perfect a recipe that will be sent for Lady Mabelle's cookie contest and I think they have turned out quite well. Putting together ingredients in the correct amount is an alchemy experiment all on its own I think. And I enjoy spreading cheer and happiness when I send some out for people to try.
And, scent. My apologies to the rest of the household, as it no doubt smells like a drunken baker who spilled rum all over themselves was in the kitchen. (Note: No rum was actually harmed in the making of any cookies or perfumes. As a Darkwater I would /never/, of course.)

Well, here I am. Married. What was commonplace for so many others, was almost foreign and alien to me. It only took me forty-five years and then some to actually getting around to doing it.
It was always hard to really see past what I had to do at that moment. I never really looked to the future, I was unconcerned with it. That maybe a future wasn't really worth having if I didn't do my job properly and correctly.
Here's to forty-five more with you. It's been almost fifteen years since there was a marriage in Riven. I'm happy it was you.
And now, for the journey back to home, and then from the river to the ocean, and finally to Southport. I'm told there are some really nice beaches there. I've never been further south than Twainfort. I suspect the heat is painful there in summer.

I'd almost forgotten how hot the summers are in Arx, and how blazing the sun. A cold wind from the north howling down from the mountains like those that blow in Whitehold would be a welcome relief, but the sea breeze off the Bay of Thrax has to suffice. It's pleasant to walk in the cool sand at dawn, and there's so many curious things to find washed ashore; seashells, driftwood, smooth stones and such. It's just a question of braving the weird creatures in their tidal pools and the lumpy piles of gooey seaweed.

I was promoted to Iron Kraken this week. It may be only temporary until cousin Celeste recovers from her injuries, but I will spend all my energy relentlessly pursuing the enemies of Pravus. Nothing makes me happier.
